Handmade for the woebegone from Sterling silver, wretched and thoroughly miserable though it may be. Rotten is as rotten does - may as well lean right in.
In the aptly-named Dark Ages, the village ne'er-do-wells (guilty or otherwise) would end up in the pillory or stocks, their head and hands trapped between boards while villagers pelted them with rotten fruit and vegetables. A wooden sign was hung around the offender's neck declaring their sin for all to see. All in all an awful way to spend a weekend.
