To be fair a witch rarely ended up in the stocks, her fate generally far more grisly. However here at Lost Apostle we're equal opportunity miserablists - let they who are without sin cast the first rotten turnip. No takers? Heathens, the lot of you.
In the aptly-named Dark Ages, the village ne'er-do-wells (guilty or otherwise) would end up in the pillory or stocks, their head and hands trapped between boards while villagers pelted them with rotten fruit and vegetables. A wooden sign was hung around the offender's neck declaring their sin for all to see. All in all an awful way to spend a weekend.
